| Letters from overseas that arrived at the Japan Committee for UNICEF. |
Letters from children around the world are arriving for children in the Tohoku region. In response, The Japan Committee for UNICEF (JCU) has launched the “Tegami Project” to deliver these letters to children in the disaster areas.
“Tegami” is Japanese for “letter”, and through the Tegami Project these messages will be delivered to children in the Tohoku region, and responses written by those children will then in turn be sent to children in various countries. Moreover, JCU aims to maintain the relationships formed under this project, and will be delivering letters with attachments that provide details about which country the letter came from.

This project restores some happiness to the lives of Tohoku children by bringing them into contact with other children of the same age. JCU endeavors to develop this project into an initiative that, through interaction with children located in other countries, motivates children to broaden the scope of their future dreams and potentials.
JCU is currently making preparations to deliver letters. This project is realized by the efforts of countless volunteers who are working to separate, package and translate over 2,000 letters.
The project is scheduled to start from 17 July (Friday). A special homepage has also been set up for the project, so make sure to check back frequently for updates.
