“Happy Birthday 3.11: The story of 11 babies born into the 11 March disaster their families”. The exhibit comprises photographs of children born in the affected areas on 11 March 2011 taken by photographer Kisei Kobayashi, along with their stories on that day. The exhibition was originally held at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi, Tokyo in October, and has now been transferred to the UNICEF House.

The following is a message from the Happy Birthday 3.11 Project staff: “The 11 March 2011 disaster took countless lives along with it. The same day, however, many new lives were welcomed into the world. JCU wants to deliver a heartfelt happy-birthday message to those children, thanking them for the life that they have brought to the region, and wishing them many more happy birthdays to come. JCU hopes that this video will inspire others to think about the future of Japan by remembering the future of these children.” Each of the photos on the 34 picture panels, as well as the official commercial produced by the Japan Committee for UNICEF, contains the feelings of support of Mr. Kobayashi and the many volunteers that participated in the creation of the event.

Also available of the Internet

A special website has been constructed with the photos and stories of the children and their families that appeared in this exhibition and the official commercial. If you are unable to attend the exhibition directly, you can see the beautiful smiles of these children on the special Happy Birthday 3.11 website.(Japanese only)»
